  • Santa Cruz is thoroughly represented in television, film and top 40 hits of most genres by first call session aces. The celebrity front man usually sports an instrument on stage that is supplied by the brand with the biggest artist relations budget. But when it comes to their recordings, only the best guitar and player will do. Santa Cruz has provided the top studio professionals with style specific customizations for decades. The FireFly concept: Current technology has allowed artists to lay down tracks from remote locations creating a need for a sophisticated guitar that travels well and still delivers a professional performance. Some impartial observations from Guitar Player Magazine: “I’ve never reviewed a guitar that caused so many people to utter some variation on the phrase, “This might be the best guitar I’ve played in my life.” “This isn’t just the best small bodied guitar that I’ve played in years – this is one of the best guitars I’ve ever played period.” “The SCGC FireFly is a truly inspirational composing guitar.”
  • Bill Nershi was in need of a guitar that could keep up with his rigorous touring schedule. He worked closely with Richard and the SCGC luthiers to build a cannon of a dreadnought that could hold its own on the big stage and still maintain the subtleties of solo acoustic work… a powerful instrument with a flourish of appointments, perfect for the energetic front man of The String Cheese Incident. “SCGC has really captured the look and sound of the guitar that took me from Floradora Saloon in Telluride to Red Rocks Amphitheater and beyond. Whether I’m soloing up the neck, playing slide or just strumming chords, this guitar sounds sweet and full. Thanks Santa Cruz, you really nailed it.”- Billy Nershi
  • The Robb Report showcases the simple elegance of this SCGC model as a way to ‘own the extraordinary’ instead of ‘settle for the ordinary.’ Welcomed internationally as both timely and timeless, the 1929-00 has received sparkling reviews from the most prestigious publications in France, Germany, UK and the US. This instrument’s design pays homage to the simple and elegant instruments made for players enduring the Great Depression of 1929. Vintage inspired appointments include scalloped bracing, a period correct script style logo done tastefully in Ivoroid and beautifully executed Ebony pyramid bridge, bridge pins, tuner buttons, head-plate and fretboard. The rosette is an exercise in austere elegance with a rich tortoise ring nestled in a vintage Ivoroid border.
  • In 1934, the powerful 14-fret herringbone dreadnought was unleashed. This has become one of the most revered and sought after designs of the steel string acoustic guitar. No one has reproduced the essence of the iconic original, until now. The secret to the often superior tone of vintage instruments lies in aged woods (crystallized resins) and the relaxation of tensions built-in during manufacture. This is exactly what we account for in our 1934 D Model. Brazilian Rosewood cut in the 1930’s, master grade/old growth Adirondack Spruce tops/bracing and real hot hide glue are among our secret weapons. Hot hide glue is a time tested, natural adhesive that sets glass-like and resonant for a quicker, cleaner response. This isn’t ‘like the old stuff.’ It is the old stuff. These rarified materials give us the foundation for a true and genuine vintage sound. Not every venerable 1930’s herringbone dreadnought was exceptional, as they were products of a small, though nonetheless factory, assembly. By applying our singular tuning and voicing talents and taking our time to ensure a relaxed assembly, we consistently access the secrets to the ‘Old Bone’ sound. The original lacquer formula, nitro-cellulose, is composed of the same stuff as trees; we are protecting and enhancing the sound of the instrument with a fine coating of wood! It is the only choice to complement this heirloom quality guitar.
  • he Tony Rice Signature Model represents over 30 years of collaboration between the world’s foremost flatpicking icon and SCGC’s founding luthier, Richard Hoover. Today’s model incorporates decades of refinement in response to players’ demands and the sophisticated evolution of the master’s technique. Never intended to be a copy of Mr. Rice’s iconic 1935 Martin D-28, the TR Model is voiced to showcase his stellar lead work with influences from Clarence White to John Coltrane. This guitar delivers exactly what the contemporary flatpicking artist needs: substantial treble and midrange for rapid single-line lead, clean note separation for definition and the traditional bass boom without the woofy bottom end of some of the venerable Pre-war dreadnoughts. Master grade Indian Rosewood and old Sitka Spruce give this instrument a professional presence at an attainable price.

  • I designed the Sideman amplifier about 4 years ago as the only two channel Milkman amplifier. It served as a go between for guitar and pedal steel players. However, I decided to introduce a brand new single channel version that I consider to be the "full featured" version of the 40W Pedal Steel Mini. Many guitar players were asking if the Mini could have this feature or that - why not just throw the kitchen sink into the Sideman? Well, thats exactly what I did! The preamp circuit and overall voicing is the same as the 40W Mini, however the Sideman has larger transformers and runs at slightly higher voltages inside. That, coupled with its larger speaker baffle gives the Sideman an impressive amount of power for how small and light it is. Similar to the Mini, you can run a 5AR4 rectifier or a solid state plug in rectifier in place. The Sideman has gotten a total makeover from its original form: it has shrunk down into a 1x12" combo that weighs about 41lbs, features a 3 band EQ with bright switch, and has a 2 knob reverb system with dwell and blend controls. Dwell allows you to lightly drive the tank when running the preamp hot. Another addition to the Sideman is rich, deep, bias modulating tremolo. The amplifier comes with the custom Milkman two button foot switch, and a removable IEC type power cord. The Sideman is hand wired onto a turret board with Mercury Magnetics transformers and Jupiter capacitors. The combination of a pine cabinet and efficient speakers keeps the weight down to about 41lbs while putting out a considerable amount of volume, and fantastic guitar tone. For customers who are interested, I will still build a custom two channel Sideman as a dual channel Steel/Guitar amplifier. Please contact me through the contact page.

  • True dimensional sound has reached a whole new dimension. Clothed in the vintage brown and gold cosmetic, the Panoramic Stereo brings the Magnatone stereo experience to a smaller , more convenient size. Two 10" speakers are powered by four EL84s push pull 12+12 watts of all tube stereo power for a very compact and wide sounding amplifier. All of this plus Magnatone's exclusive varistor pitch shifting vibrato and a full length Accutronics reverb tank means you can get the sound of a Twilighter Stereo in the perfect size for grab and go gigs or rehearsals.
  • The Twilighter picks up were the classic American combo amps of the past left off. With a pair of 6V6 power tubes and a GZ34 rectifier, the Twilighter offers 22 watts of clean, robust tone in a 12" speaker combo that is light yet durable. Add the tube driven reverb, tremolo, and varistor true pitch shifting vibrato and you have a new American classic that is sure to please!
  • The HT15 is the result of 6 years of careful experimentation to bring the classic "Harmonic Tremolo" circuit into a low power lightweight combo amplifier.

This legendary Fender® circuit from the early 1960s was typically found in amplifiers with over 45 watts or bundled into heavy combos with multiple speakers. Milkman is very happy to present a lightweight low wattage 1x12 combo with the unmistakable sound of this tremolo circuit. In addition to swirling tremolo, a tube reverb system adds to the depth and presence of this small amplifier.

How is 15 watts different than 20 watts? When you compare the HT15 to the Creamer, you will notice right away a difference in headroom (as well as the sound of the tremolo circuit). This is because the HT15 operates with lower internal voltages than the Creamer. The HT15 was designed to break up more than the Creamer, and to do so in a way that is very fun coupled with the tremolo circuit.

The HT15 is the only Milkman amplifier designed with its tremolo circuit ahead of the reverb. With standard tremolo, it is essential that the reverb pulses with the tremolo to add to the overall harmonic and psychoacoustic effect. The HT15 on the other hand sounds best with the harmonic tremolo going through the reverb circuit.

There are three speaker options help tailor the HT15 to your unique style:

Jupiter Large Ceramic 12" is a transparent sounding speaker. Bright, lively, and very efficient. Its got a great bottom end even at low volume. This speaker will not break up no matter how hard you push the amp.

Jupiter Alnico 12" has a classic American alnico magnet sound. A bit less transparent in the upper midrange, this speaker adds a "woody" tone to the HT15. Its lively on top, and a bit more focused in the bass response than its ceramic magnet brother. The speaker starts to break up and add alnico character as the amp is pushed. Alnico speakers tend to round the edges of overdriven tones.

Celestion Alnico Blue 12" takes the HT15 in a different direction. This speaker is very mid forward with little midrange scoop. The top is bright, and the bass response is the tightest out of the three options. This speaker starts to break up when the amp is driven hard. When the amp is overdriven, the Blue is extremely reactive shedding low end and pushing the midrange further into the fun zone.

The HT15 is hand wired onto a turret board with Mercury Magnetics transformers and Jupiter capacitors.

  • I design amps based on my own experience and needs, and when it came time to design the Creamer, I wanted to find a balance between a perfectly voiced guitar tone with a fair amount of power and portability. Everyone loves low power vintage amplifiers, but sometimes I need a bit more power, reliability, and headroom on the gig. In studio, the Creamer is virtually silent when idle. Its the ultimate refinement and alternative to the vintage small format amplifier.

I wanted the Creamer to be very versatile so I included an adjustable cathode bias circuit so that the user can easily substitute 6L6 or 6V6 output tubes with no need to rebias the output tubes. I have added a rear mounted switch to maintain an 8ohm speaker output regardless of which tube type used. Inside of the chassis, you will find an internal bias adjustment in case you want to fine tune the cathode bias when substituting in vintage tubes which tend to draw more current.

With 6V6 the Creamer puts out about 20 watts into 8ohms and has sweet breakup. Put a pair of 6L6s in, flip the switch on the rear panel and you get a bit of more low end, subtler mids, and a touch more headroom.

The tremolo circuit in the Creamer is unique and sounds outstanding. It is harmonically rich, deep, and has a very useful range of speed.

Three speaker options help tailor the Creamer to your unique style:

Jupiter Large Ceramic 12" is a transparent sounding speaker. Bright, Lively, and very efficient. Its got a great bottom end even at low volume. This speaker will not break up no matter how hard you push the amp.

Jupiter Alnico 12" has a classic American alnico magnet sound. A bit less transparent in the upper midrange, this speaker adds a "woody" tone to the Creamer. Its still lively on top, and a bit more focused in the bass response than its ceramic magnet brother. The speaker starts to break up and add alnico character as the amp is pushed.

Celestion Alnico Creamback 12" takes the Creamer into a totally new direction. This speaker is very mid forward with little midrange scoop. The top is smooth and bright, and the bass response is the tightest out of the three options. This speaker starts to break up when the amp is driven hard, adding a unique midrange boost as you push it.

Like all Milkman amplifiers, the Creamer is built using the finest possible components onto a turret board, and is hand wired with cloth covered wire.

  • This is a compact lightweight version of the Milkman 85W Pedal Steel Amplifier. Boasting 40W, the amp has half the power - nearly half the weight - but the same full tone as its big brother. This means you can crank the amp up to the sweet spot without tearing the paint off the walls, and easily bring the amp to the gig without tearing the muscles in your arm.

The Mini is able to harness the power of a pair of 6L6 output tubes by driving them with a long tail phase inverter. The output section is grid biased, and has a large amount of negative feedback for extra high headroom. Its the same physical size and weight as the Creamer, but the tone has a bit more punch and sparkle on the top end because of the different power section and amp voicing.

The Pedal Steel Mini is one of the most unique amplifiers on the market today. Nothing is sacrificed in order to get this much tone into a small package. The chassis is hand wired onto a turret board using Jupiter capacitors and Mercury Magnetics transformers. The tube reverb section is deep and powerful with the additional tone control, and whether you are playing the amp clean or broken up, the sound is 3 dimensional. You won't believe how big this amp thinks it is!
